What the Map Guide Can Safely Tell You

The Sandustry map is a layered sandbox with surface factory space, underground caverns, Water sources, resource pockets, Fluxite deposits, artifacts, and harder barriers that gate exploration. Exact cave layouts, artifact rooms, and resource quantities can change during Early Access, so this guide focuses on what to look for and how to prepare rather than promising fixed coordinates.

For factory layout planning, use the build map guide. For collectible progression, use the artifact guide.

Early Map Priorities

Your first map goal is not to explore everything. It is to secure a stable economy:

  1. Keep a short Sand -> Water -> Wet Sand -> Shaker -> Gold line near the starting area.
  2. Route Residue away from the Shaker so it does not bury the machine.
  3. Add Logistics only when manual carrying becomes the bottleneck.
  4. Explore just far enough to find more Water and Fluxite.
  5. Return to build before your factory becomes a mixed-material pile.

The factory setup guide covers that first production loop in more detail.

Fluxite on the Map

Fluxite is a high-priority upgrade resource. It is found as deposits in the world, and destroying a deposit adds the resource directly to your inventory. That means it behaves differently from loose materials such as Sand, Gold, Residue, or Water.

Practical notes:

  • You do not need conveyors for Fluxite deposits.
  • Clear safe access around the deposit before mining it.
  • Use upgrades that improve movement and mining speed before pushing deep.
  • If you are looking for Fluxite production rather than deposits, see Fluxite guide and Flux Emanator setup.

Water and Caverns

Water sources are one of the strongest reasons to explore. Early pools are often enough for a first Shaker line, but larger factories need remote supply, piping, or a controlled Steam plan.

When you find Water:

  • Check whether nearby tiles are buildable.
  • Build a containment basin before connecting it to your main factory.
  • Prefer Pipes and Pumps for long routes once unlocked.
  • Keep Lava and high-heat reactions isolated unless you intentionally want Steam.

The Water guide gives the current source and transport notes.

Artifact and Puzzle Areas

Artifact areas are worth marking even if you cannot solve them immediately. They often need a specific tool, movement upgrade, or environmental interaction. Do not tear apart your main factory to chase one; secure income first, then return with the right gear.

Good preparation:

  • Bring a mining tool that can clear the surrounding terrain.
  • Keep mobility upgrades in mind for deep shafts.
  • Watch for Ice, Snow, or hard blocks around puzzle rooms.
  • Treat old puzzle walkthroughs as version-sensitive.
